Passavant Energy & Environment commissions Industrial Water Treatment Plant at Ford Production Facility in India and gets honored with awards
The execution of the contract for the Industrial Water Treatment Plant at the Ford Vehicle and Engine Assembly Plant at Sanand in Gujarat, India, progressed well within the plans of PE&E and to the full satisfaction of the client, who honored Passavant Energy & Environment (PE&E) with an award for “Industry Leading Safety Performance” and another award for “Zero Lost Time Accidents”. Commenting on the awards, Mr. Dilesh Gathani, Business Development Director of Passavant Energy & Environment in India, said, “Once again we have maintained our leading position in the market and we appreciate the acknowledgement of the effort and accuracy put into the execution of the Water and Wastewater Plants at Ford’s site. These two awards emphasize the international expertise and professionalism of Passavant Energy & Environment and encourage us to maintain our standard while continuously improving our latest strategies.”
The contract for IWTP Ford is worth EUR 5 Mio and it is one of five ongoing projects of PE&E in India. The automobile manufacturer Ford is currently building a Vehicle Assembly and Engine Manufacturing Plant that involves the largest foreign direct investment in the state amounting several hundred million Euros and will be one of the most automated car manufacturing plants across the entire Asia Pacific and Africa. PE&E has been awarded with the contract to build sustainable Water & Wastewater Treatment Plants and commenced work in February 2012. A key challenge for planners of the project was limited water supply, as the State of Gujarat has over the years experienced increasing population stress, rapid urbanization, industrialization and over exploitation of surface and ground water resulting in water scarcity throughout the state. Moreover, Ford’s Global strategy for wastewater management at its production sites stipulates that 100% of treated wastewater shall be reused within the plant.
To minimize water consumption at the site, 100% reuse of the treated wastewater was achieved by implementing a “Zero Liquid Discharge” wastewater treatment plant where 40% of the treated wastewater is recycled back to the processing facilities for reuse and 60% of the treated wastewater is used for irrigation of green areas. A rainwater harvesting system has also been implemented at the site to compensate the capacity of the site to retain and absorb rainwater. A dedicated Water Treatment Plant is also constructed at the plant to safeguard the supply of water necessary for the operation of the plant, which will commence to full scale in January 2015.
